Long Shaft Cymbal mallets: Additional shaft length differentiates the CymM-5's from the CymM-4's. These CymM-5's are offered in Birch shafts, CymM-5B, with a Royal Blue Color band, or with Rattan shafts, CymM-5R, with a red color band. The CymM-5's additional shaft length generally make them a better choice for playing larger suspended cymbals.
Ron's cymbal mallets have been and remain one of the most important mallets many professionals own today. The balance and weight of the CymM-5's provide almost effortless cymbal rolls, making possible long, even crescendos and decrescendos, with no audible evidence of the players rhythmic strokes on the cymbal. The CymM-5's are capable of rapid dynamic expressions on cymbals, such as szforzandos, and with practice, a superb subito piano. The dense mallet head and fabric texture help suppress cymbal vibration with or without distortion or choke, depending on the aim of the performer, composer, arranger, etc.
Ron originally developed these mallets in the1970's while doing a lot of playing in symphonies, pop and jazz tours, and extensive studio work in the United States and South America.
The CymM-5's are voiced/designed for cymbals generally from 18 inches in diameter and larger.
Performance Tip: Both the CymM-4's and CymM-5's are excellent for priming gongs of all sizes, particularly larger gongs and tam tams,
wind gongs, etc.
